Eye Screening & Spectacles Distribution Camp at Schools

According to World Health Organization (WHO), every minute a child goes blind. Most of the vision impairment in children are avoidable – the vision of most such children will improve with a simple pair of spectacles, properly prescribed. Through such simple measures, the prevalence of visual impairment in the age group of 3-15 years will come down drastically.

JSW Cement Ltd, Bilakalagudur, organized an eye screening camp at 10 schools of Bilakalagudur, Bujunur, Gadivemula, Grandivemula and Allagadda villages from 22nd to 25th of Sep-2015 under its CSR initiatives, in collaboration with Shanthiram Medical College/General Hospital, Nandyal .The objective of this program is to spread awareness on eye disorders, their early detection and to detect refractive errors and eye ailments among school children.

Spectacles were distributed to the students those are with refractive errors on 10th Dec-2015. The camp was inaugurated by Mr.T.Harinath Reddy- AVP, JSW Cement Ltd, Bilakalagudur and addressing the gather, he said that “Some of the major challenges with childhood blindness are lack of awareness among parents and the community about preventive measures. The vision of children can often be improved or maximized by timely intervention and diagnosis. Barriers to accessing services include lack of awareness, distance of eye check up camps, shortage of paediatric eye-care”.
