Krysta Leakproof

Krysta Leak-proof is an integral crystalline waterproofing admixture used in making concrete and mortar to become impervious and durable. It is a capillary waterproofing compound available in dry powder form and added to the concrete mix at the time of batching.

It consists of selective cementitious material, ultrafine silica aggregate and various active and proprietary reactive chemicals used as permanently active waterproofing treatment for concrete and mortar. This active additive reacts with moisture and by-products of cement hydration from concrete to form millions of needle like crystals. These crystals grow and deposit throughout the pores and voids in concrete and permanently blocking and reduces water permeability and which forms an impervious barrier to liquids thereby protecting the concrete and steel reinforcement.

It is non-toxic and contains no dangerous chemicals in its composition with a shelf life of 6 months. It prevents water seepage/leakage in any part of the building, water tank, basement, sewage & water treatment tanks, manholes, tunnels, underground vaults, foundation walls and parking decks, etc.

It protects against spalling, efflorescence, pop outs and other damages caused by weathering, bleeding of salts and internal expansion.

  • When crystalline admixture is added to concrete or mortar, it undergoes chemical reaction that causes long, narrow crystals to form, filling the pores, capillaries and hairline cracks of the concrete mass. As long as moisture remains present, crystals continue to grow throughout the concrete, reaching lengths of many inches over time. Once the concrete has cured, the crystalline chemicals sit dormant until another dose of water (such as through a new crack) causes the chemical reaction to begin again.

For small mixes, add Krysta Leakproof compound to the aggregates and mix for 2-3 minutes prior to adding cement and water.

For plant mixed material add Krysta Leakproof compound to 65-75% of the pre-batches water and mixing for 2-3 minutes prior to adding the remaining batched ingredients and mix 4-6 min in accordance with standard practice.

In transit mixer, Krysta Leakproof compound is dispersed in water and add to transit mixers on site just prior to placing. The minimum mixing time is 4-6 minutes at agitating speed.

The crystalline system for concrete waterproofing is substantially different from traditional barrier products (cementitious membrane, bitumen, acrylic, siloxane, etc).

  • It creates a crystalline structure deep within the pores and capillary tracts of the concrete mass to prevent the penetration of water and aggressive chemicals.
  • It is not dependent on surface adhesion to achieve its waterproofing effect. It is resistant to extreme hydrostatic pressure.
  • It will seal hairline cracks up to 0.5 mm.
  • It is not subject to the deterioration problems encountered by membranes.
  • It is permanent and reactivates whenever water is present.
  • It does not require a dry surface; in fact, a wet surface is necessary.
  • It does not require dry weather to be applied.
  • It does not require costly surface printing or levelling prior to application.
  • It cannot puncture, tear or come apart.
  • It does not require protection during backfilling or during placement of steel, wire mesh or other materials.
  • It can be applied on either side of a concrete surface - the negative or the positive (water pressure) side.
  • It does not require sealing, lapping and finishing of seams at corners, edges or between members.
  • It is less costly to apply than most other methods.
  • It seals the penetration of the water from every direction unlike membranes, which are basically pore blockers that block the pore structure of the concrete and keep water from penetrating via the top surface.
