The cement manufacturing process itself does not generate any process waste. However some waste is generated from ancillary and housekeeping activities which include iron scrap, plastic waste, rubber waste, E-waste etc. Additionally, we generate two types of hazardous waste – waste oil and waste grease. Our Waste Management Policy is guided by the principles of reduce-reuse-recycle, addressing the disposal of both hazardous and non-hazardous waste responsibly. By prioritising waste reduction at the source and upholding responsible disposal practices 99% of wastes are sold to authorised recyclers/refurbishers in compliance with regulations. We are also complying to the EPR Battery Waste Management Rules 2022 for safe disposal of batteries. Less than 1% of waste which is primarily biomedical waste is sent to disposal facilities aligning with the regulatory requirements. We diverted ~99.99% of our waste from landfill and conventional disposal pathways. Except for biomedical waste, all waste generated is recycled. This performance is independently verified by a third party in accordance with reporting standards.
Since we use plastic packaging to pack our products, complying to the latest Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) guidelines is an important area. We have registered ourselves as Plastic Waste Processor (PWP) and as Brand owner (BO) under the Plastic Waste Management (Amendment) Rules, 2022. We have co-processed around ~1,15,000 T of RDF or plastic waste at our Nandyal and Shiva units. We are increasing our plastic waste co-processing with a target of becoming 10x Plastic negative by 2030. Currently we have achieved 15x plastic negativity. In FY25-26, no significant spills were reported, and all wastewater generated was effectively contained within our premises, with no discharge into external water bodies.
Waste Management Programs: We conduct annual internal and external audits of hazardous and non-hazardous waste management across our facilities. These audits help identify improvement opportunities and enhance overall waste management performance.
